Skill / Vocational Training

The unemployment resulting from skill gap is high in Tamil Nadu. It has a total population of 68 million. People in the working age group (15-59) are approximately 40 million. The official unemployment rate is 4% but much more people lack a reasonable income. On the other hand, the projected deficit for skilled, semi-skilled and unskilled workers is 5.3 million for the period 2020-2024.

To combat high unemployment rates and tackle job mismatch between market offer and demand, Fair Jobs India provides jobs with proper working conditions to over 25,000 young people (SDG8) and women (SDG5), offering them relevant training and life skills and connect them with current vacancies. Together with government, private sector and NGOs (SDG17), we reduce inequalities (SDG10) and improve the quality of life of youngsters and women, enabling them to become self-dependent citizens.

Since 2006 we have been very keen to pave way for most deserving adolescents, youths and unemployed young adults to have on market demand employable skill training in the following sectors and trades. We also help them improve their knowledge in life skill trainings, personality development, soft skills, personal grooming, leadership & decision making skills, communication skills, tone control, effective communication, inter-personal relationships and interview preparedness during the training.

The successful beneficiaries are given certificates and then helped to secure a job. We conduct regular Job Fair event in by attending the interview by HRs and man power agencies participating in the Job Fair organized by us in regular intervals at the training centre. We partnered with cheerful donors to give following trainings.

Under Income Generation Scheme, we felicitated trainings on Tailoring, Embroidery, making of candles, scented Agarvathis, soft toys, rexin bags, plastic wire baskets, Mat, pottering, textile weavings, Rexin bags and plastic wire baskets benefitting 1710 youths, women and men which have helped them to have an livelihood alternatives. 95 entrepreneurs were born out this intervention. They tapped 62.5 Lakhs through availing loans from banks, NGOs and non-financial banks.

VI. Tailoring Classes

Tailoring classes for women were   started under the alternative skill development program. This is to develop the abilities of the women of the marginalized fishermen communities to earn money in other ways than through selling of fish or other sea foods.   This training is  set to develop their income earning capacities so that this would add to the earnings of the family and also serve as the main income when there is the ban on fishing and when fishing becomes difficult.  It is during this dry and lean period the marginalized Dalit and Tribal fishermen take loans from moneylenders and find themselves trapped forever, as there are lots of such difficult days in their lives.

During this period 40 women were trained in the centre and some them opted to work in export garment factories while other chose to work from their homes. So far 190 women received skills in dress making average earning per week is between Rs 300 and Rs 400

Training In Skills

Training In Skills

Of the factors that prevent the rural Dalit women from becoming empowered, lack of income and the ability to generate income on their own plays a crucial role. In order that this factor is reduced or even eliminated income generation skills training was conducted in the project area to enable dalit women to get equipped to generate income on their own and become independent so that the families would have another source of income. The trainings wee based mainly on the interest and requirement and the demand of the local area. Following table provides a detailed picture of the places and trainings conducted.
