EMPOWERING THE DISABLED AND PREVENTING DISABILITY

Annai Therasa Social Works Association addresses the needs of physically challenged through Handicapped and Disability Prevention program in 10 Mandals/blocks of Tirupathi district of Andhra Pradesh since 1999.

We respond to address their issues pertaining to access their rights from which they are denied, utilizing Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) services, supporting diverse disabilities (visual, speech, hearing, mental challenges, locomotive impairments, multiple disabilities, leprosy-affected, Elephantiasis).

Health care for disABILITIES

Regular Eye Care & general health Camps is organized in conjunction with Sankara Nethralaya Pammal, to help disabled, community people, senior citizens and adults to have early diagnosis to prevent all general health issues, having nutritional food & especially vision related issues. They are guided & referred to relevant doctors, hospitals, to have quality medical treatment and to undergo cataract surgery if required. Nearly 12000 people have been benefitted through this intervention. 4320 had the privilege to see the beauty of the world as created by God with new vision by being referred to undergo free cataract surgery and have new goggles.

Access to quality education

Community members now understand the value of education.  They motivate their children with a least of 12th grade education, as well as admittance to conventional schools. They are encouraged and inspired to become first-generation graduates, earning a regular wage and working in a dignified, good profession. “Prevention is better than cure”, the interested community members are given counseling, awareness & training on preventive & precautionary steps to eliminate disabilities from their family, relatives, and community.

Aids and Appliances:

Annai Therasa Social Works Association is a pioneer in providing aids and appliances to physically challenge. It helps them to feel “Able” and have “Ability” to move forward and reach all their goals.

They are also encouraged to become a member of the Self Help Group to avail any financial support bestowed for them through various government departments and schemes. We have 48 Women’s Sangams (Associations) in place with 720 members interconnected to be in unity. So far we have tapped Rs. 48,00,000 lakhs from Government as livelihood support to active members of Self Help Groups.
